Surgical sterilization is part of being a responsible cat owner. By ensuring your cat is spayed or neutered, you are helping to control the feline population. Spays and neuters are routine procedures that are typically done in the first year of your cat’s life. These procedures are safe, and recovery time is quick.

What is spaying and neutering?

A spay is a surgical procedure performed on a female cat. During the procedure, the uterus and ovaries are removed. A neuter is a surgical procedure performed on a male cat. During the procedure, the testicles are removed.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

We recommend that all cats are spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months.

What is the procedure to spay/neuter a cat?

A spay procedure is done under a general anesthetic for her safety and comfort. During a spay, your cat’s ovaries and uterus are surgically removed. We administer a fast-acting pain medication during the procedure to control any discomfort. Your cat is closely monitored during and after her spay by a veterinarian or a registered veterinary technician. A neuter is a routine surgical procedure, where the testicles of a male cat are safely removed via an incision in the scrotum. The procedure is done under a deep sedation. A fast acting pain medication is administered during the procedure to control any discomfort. Your cat will be closely monitored during and after the procedure by a veterinarian or registered veterinary technician.
