Kitten Vaccinations

Our comprehensive vaccination program provides essential protection for your new feline friend.

Kittens are especially susceptible to contracting contagious diseases. Kittens immune systems are not fully developed, leaving them at a higher risk. It is very important that your kitten receives its entire series of vaccines on schedule.

When do kittens get their first shots?

Kittens should have their first set of vaccinations at the age of 8 weeks. At the Morinville Veterinary Clinic, we vaccinate kittens with the FVRCP combination vaccine at each visit. This vaccination protects your kitten against a number of highly contagious and sometimes fatal viruses.

How often do my kittens need a vaccine?

In order for your kittens to be fully protected, we recommend a series of vaccines. The series of vaccines is done when your kitten is 8 weeks, 12 weeks and again at 16 weeks.

Does my kitten need only core vaccines?

Your kitten may benefit from vaccines that wouldn’t be considered part of the core series. Your kitten’s lifestyle and individual needs will play a big part in the type of vaccinations that may be recommended.

Are there any risks associated with vaccines?

Kitten vaccines are very safe and are vital in protecting your kitten. Adverse reactions to vaccines are possible but rare. In the event of a vaccination, reaction treatment is often quick and pain-free. At the Morinville Veterinary Clinic, we report every incident of reaction to the manufacturer.
