Easy Ways to Bond With Your Cat

Cats are laid back and enjoy activities like napping, basking in the sun and of course, eating. Cats are also intrinsic hunters that love the thrill of the chase. The house cat is also a regular groomer. By tapping into these instincts, you can make your cat happier physically and mentally. Here are some easy ways to bond with your pet.

Toys

Laser pointers are inexpensive, and the kitties LOVE these things. That allusive red dot can awaken your cat’s ingrained desire to hunt and stalk. It’s also very user-friendly. Laser pointers are loved by cats young and old.

Mylar ball – the crinkly plastic balls also trigger a playing hunting reaction with cats. The balls are an excellent alternative to a fabric fish or mouse. The plastic provides a crunch when bitten and tumbles across the floor quickly when swatted. In my own experience, my most senior feline preferred the mylar balls over a catnip mouse any day.

Catnip or Honey Suckle – cats usually prefer either catnip or honeysuckle. Both products contain naturally derived plant products that trigger a psychedelic response for cats. After dispensing the product onto a toy (such as a mylar ball or scratching post) expect a sudden burst of energy, dilated pupils or just a happy cat rolling around making out with their toys.

Brushing

Brushing your feline frequently will not only make your kitty feel pampered and soft, but it’s also incredibly beneficial for their health! Brushes like the zoom groom or undercoat rake are about $10. Most cats will happily sit on your lap and enjoy a thorough brushing. The zoom groom has thick rubber spikes that gently massages the skin while you brush. The undercoat rake is very effective for cats with long or thick fur. Regular brushing is the single most effective way to prevent hairballs.
